About the Built Environment and the Outdoors Summit
Now in its ninth year, the Kansas Built Environment and the
Outdoors Summit creates an experience that allows stakeholders and advocates to
accelerate their efforts to improve the built environment and thereby improve
health. The built environment refers to the ways in which the structures and
systems of a community – whether a large city or small rural town – guides the
countless daily decisions that contribute to overall health and well-being. The Summit strives to bring together everyone who has a stake in the built
environment; e.g., planners, builders, health professionals, park
professionals, just to name a few. Such an opportunity for shared learning
helps to foster the partnerships and collaborations necessary to translate
conference ideas and inspiration into concrete action steps and change back at
home. Two hundred people attended the highly successful 2014 BEOS in Wichita,
Kansas.
Notable past BEOS presenters include: Ed McMahon, Mark Winne, Drs. Ruth Ann and Paul Atchely, Heather Wooten, Dr. Michael Wesch, Jay Walljasper, Richard Louv, Mark Fenton, Chuck Flink, Dan Burden, Richard Jackson, M.D., Darwin Hindman, Fran Mainella and Barry Weiss.
